Magickal Training
Lineage 1989

The instructions that follow are to be used throughout your magickal training. They are designed to help in your magickal studies and help you achieve a better understanding of yourself; a necessary undertaking, for ultimately, you are your own best tool.

It is advisable to follow these instructions as given at first. It is important that you develop a routine in your magickal training: set aside a specific time each day to do your studies. Doing so will make things easier for you in the long run and is also good for your self-discipline. Working at the same time on a daily basis will also prepare your subconscious mind for magickal work and make it more open to suggestion Later, as you develop, you may begin to change certain things about your routine as conditions and circumstances change in your life (as they will). Your may also wish to experiment. Do so, but keep in mind that you must be consistent. Don’t follow one routine one day and then completely alter it the next. (As a side note, remember that the subconscious mind is the most receptive just before falling asleep at night or just after awakening in the morning. Actually, this is when the conscious mind functions least.)

The Craft is not an easy path to follow, as it requires constant discipline of self. In the Craft, you are responsible for self, as you are totally responsible for your actions
The Goddess gives us “free will and choices.” She will not TELL you to do anything, but, instead, will lend you the idea or the insight. With these thoughts in mind, following the list below will help you along your magickal path.

I. MAGICKAL DIARIES
For a while you will have to keep several notebooks each of which is important to your magickal studies. They do not have to be elaborate, but they should be clear enough that you could refer back to them later and understand what you have written. Don’t forget to date things as you go! Use any type of book that you wish, but keep them within your reach and out of reach of other’s As this is the result of your labor and your private material – the curious and greedy should not benefit from them. The books you will need are described below.

Dream Diary – in which you will record your dreams immediately upon awakening in the morning while the impressions are still strong. Do this on a daily basis. You may find it easier to take a page in your notebook and make columns and label them with various headings such as date, place, people, time frame, colors, objects, symbols, etc. This will make it easier for you to record your impressions quickly while they are still fresh in your mind. Remember, if you don’t dream during the night, to record that also.

At the beginning (the first year or so) don’t try to interpreter your dreams (and dream books are not really useful for this either). Your goal is to just become familiar with your own symbology through your dream state.

Magickal Working Diary – in which you will record the details of any magickal act that you do, whether it is part of a large ritual or something you do on your own. You need to list the date, time, place, astrological correspondences, weather conditions, materials used (candles, incense etc.), purpose, objectives and most of all the results. A magickal act is like a scientific experiment; there are logical steps involved and that can be reproduced later, but only if you have accurate records. A word to the wise, there may come a time when you’ll have to reproduce a magickal operation – and your need may be great!

Personality Record – in which you will begin working with the aspects of your personality, like listing your good points, your bad points, how you relate to people, and so on. This record will be a very useful tool in understanding yourself and a great help in your magickal work.

Diary of Emotions - in which you will be recording experiences and dealings with your emotional nature. Such things as working with your frustrations, stresses and blocks that can hinder your growth as well as exploring your positive emotional side and using that to further your growth.

Divination Record  - in which you will record the results o your personal divinations. You should choose one method of divination to work with on a daily basis whether or not you use other methods (i.e. I Ching, Tarot, Palmistry, Runes, Tea Leaves, etc.). It is important to keep a record of your own divinations at first in order to gauge the accuracy of your readings compared with the eventual outcome. Also, until you become adept with your method of divination, your should refrain from doing readings for other people.

Exercise Book – You will also need a book to record your answers and impressions to the assignments that you are given. This is important in keeping track of your progress and will be an invaluable tool should you ever be asked to teach.

II. EXERCISE PROCEDURES
